LOVE'S FORBEARANCE

  • Rated: FRM
  • Summary: This sequel was written in response to a 2009 Moonridge Claim challenge to follow Polly B's heartbreaking story of partner betrayal on Sentinel Thursday with a story that would lead to a happy ending. This is a story of reconciliation, but it takes a while. Both Jim and Blair have to work hard to address the problems between them and to get to the truth of the underlying issues that caused the schism. 'There is no limit to love’s forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure.'

  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance
  • Warnings: None

THE UNEXPECTED BLAIR SANDBURG

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: The story is set immediately post series and explores the differences between perceptions, expectations, and reality. Has Jim ever really seen Blair as a man in his own right? Or for him, is Blair only the longhaired, hyperactive, perennial grad student tagalong who helped him with his senses?
  • Genres: Angst, Case story, Romance
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 81,978
  • Author's Notes: This story is dedicated to Janet, in gratitude for her exceptionally generous donation to Moonridge and for her encouragement and support to return to writing after months of being unable to write anything at all. I’m also grateful to all the other donors who so generously added to Janet’s original commitment. The dialogue and scenario in the opening scene are drawn directly from the episode The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg. All material in this story referencing Blair’s dissertation has been borrowed from one of my other stories, Without You.

BOUNDARIES OF THE SOUL

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: Dark fic. When they are captured by white supremecists, Jim has to have sex with his best friend, to save Blair's life. Not really slash, but graphic and all about love. (This is a sequel to the GEN story Through A Glass Darkly - Originally exclusive to SentinelAngst)
  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Rape, Sexual content, Strong language, Extreme violence
  • Word count: 33,644
  • Author's Notes: This story is neither gen nor slash... but you'll see that I balanced on a very thin line with this J/B pairing.

  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Violence
  • Word count: 54,658
  • Author's Notes: I want to thank StarWatcher, my invaluable beta, for her wonderful support. This story is dedicated to Aunty Hill, because it was her brilliant, evocative art that inspired this tale.

HALF HEAVEN, HALF HEARTBREAK

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: This long and angsty post TSbyBS slash story follows from Tough Love, a slash story that revealed their feelings about one another, but also illuminated their doubts, insecurities ... and Jim’s inability to say, ‘I love you. This story is a Gene Pitney songfic. Sit down, get comfortable, maybe have some tissues handy, ‘cause this is a long, rambling tale.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story
  • Warnings: Sexual content
  • Word count: 103,461
  • Author's Notes: With thanks to Janet and Gerri, for your patience and for your generous support of a STAR for BRIAN as well as for allowing me to also offer this story in the 2008 Moonridge Online Auction. Thanks also to Janet for the story ideas, and to Kelly, Tressa, Bee, Mary, Sallye, Billie, Tammy and Terry for your generous donations to Moonridge 2008. As always, thanks to StarWatcher for her beta.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, PARTNER!

  • Rated: FRT
  • Summary: Ten years later. Established relationship.
  • Genres: Romance
  • Warnings: None
  • Word count: 5,313
  • Author's Notes: I wrote this piece to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of The Sentinel first airing on TV. Well, The house in the story is where I lived for five years in Winnipeg, only my yard bordered on the Red River and not the sea. Makes me happy to imagine them living in it.

IMPRINT LOVE

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: Post TSbyBS, Blair is a paid consultant with the PD. Jim's feeling twitchy and Blair thinks maybe they need to consciously bond.
  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance

  • Word count: 8,132

IN THE ARMS OF AN ANGEL

  • Rated: FRM
  • Summary: Dan Wolf asks to have recent deaths in All Saints' Cathedral due to overdoses looked into -- the deaths may simply be a series of unfortunate coincidences, but he finds the circumstances odd. This story is set after TSbyBS, when Blair is a cop.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: None
  • Word count: 31637
  • Author's Notes: Story concept by Janet. The story title and lyrics used throughout are drawn from Angel by Sarah McLachlan. This story is unbeta’d.

LIES

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: It's been a year since the press conference and, despite doing his job well, Blair's testimony in court is compromised by his reputation as a liar and a fraud.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story, Romance

  • Author's Notes: Story Concept by Janet

RED STAR RISING

  • Rated: FRM
  • Summary: Blair's shaman abilities tell him Jim is in danger but doesn't know what that danger is when an old enemy stalks Jim. Established relationship.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: None
  • Word count: 10,059
  • Author's Notes: This was written in response to the LiveJournal 'Getting a Sense of Cliches' Ficathon. My assigned challenge was 'Blair is a Shaman with special abilities and Jim’s sense of smell'. My challenge to the reader is to identify the assassin!

SCARLET RIBBONS

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: A 'What's Your Pleasure' story written for Romanse, with thanks for supporting the Moonridge Zoo... This is a very dark tale of dreadful suffering and torment of the body, heart and soul. There is graphic torture and rape, as well as recovery and restoration. Set post TSbyBS.
  • Pairings: Blair/other, Blair/Jim
  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Rape, Sexual content, Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 61,677
  • Author's Notes: There is an old folk tale, The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, about two impoverished people who love each other beyond all else in their lives, and wish to give each other something special for Christmas. They have two priceless possessions that they treasure: her beautiful long, luxurious hair and his pocket watch that had belonged to his father and grandfather before him. Unbeknowst to one another, she sells her locks to buy a chain for his watch... and he pawns his watch to buy combs to grace her tresses... There is a song sung by Harry Belafonte, called 'Scarlet Ribbons', that tells of a miracle of love. I have appended both O. Henry's tale and the words to the song at the end of this story. When I was asked to write this story, the memories of these two tales meshed in my mind, as they tell of sacrifices for love and miracles of love; hence the title 'Scarlet Ribbons' - though, sadly, 'scarlet ribbons' have another meaning in this tale as well.

  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 57,720
  • Author's Notes: My thanks go to Janet, for her great story concept, and to StarWatcher and Annie (Trislindsay) for her beta. This story first appeared in My Mongoose Ezine, in March, 2007

TOUGH LOVE

  • Rated: FRM
  • Summary: Jim's vehemence and Blair's ambivalence about a case concerning a student prostitute ring threatens to tear them apart.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story
  • Warnings: Sexual content
  • Word count: 21,635
  • Author's Notes: Inspired by Janet, this story takes place after Night Shift, but before Sentinel, Too. This is dedicated to Janet for her incredible generosity in encouraging my work by winning this second story in the Friends of Garett Moonridge Online Auction 2006.

QUIET DESPERATION

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: A very long Murder 101 missing scene.
  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 52,471
  • Author's Notes:
For those who are sensitive to the issues and realities of domestic abuse, while the subject is touched upon in this story, I did not intend the physically violent incident between the principals to be an example of domestic abuse. However, some may feel that the issue is handled too lightly. The story is dedicated to my good friend, Suzanne, for her birthday. She was never happy with my gen short story Enough Already, and felt that I'd resolved the confrontation too quickly. Upon request, she very helpfully provided substantial suggestions on how the storyline might have gone and also along the song How Far by Martina McBride, which helped facilitate the ending. My thanks to my beta editor, StarWatcher, as always, for her excellent work and support.

THE CHOICES WE MAKE

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: Blair's heart is breaking, and he feels he has to leave after TSbyBS. Jim doesn't understand that the choices he's making to 'protect' Blair are killing him. First times, set post Crossroads and TSbyBS.
  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 75459
  • Author's Notes: This story was inspired by a discussion on the SentinelAngst list... specifically, by the question as to why so many fans seem to expect that Blair has to sacrifice himself for Jim, but there is not a similar expectation that Jim would sacrifice himself for Blair. Well, I ask you - how could I resist? Also, credit has to go to so many of you who commented thoughtfully during the discussion... you'll see your ideas in the story. Hope you don't mind me building on your commentary. Wish I could have contributed, but I've been on the road and only saw the discussion belatedly on digest.

STAND IN THE LIGHT

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: This story is a sequel to the GEN story Will You Remember Me? and is the slash version of the gen story No More Shadows.
  • Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Sexual content
  • Word count: 47,006
  • Author's Notes: I wish to thank StarWatcher for her wonderful beta support over any number of stories! Special thanks also go to Vicky Orman who shared with me several folktales about the jaguar, tales that provided the mystical history at the core of this story...and to Quietwolf, my expert on snakes.

WITHOUT YOU

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: Epilogue to Dead End on Blank Street. After heated words are exchanged, Blair moves out to get on with his life. Jim tries to get on with his own life. Then a serial killer from a cold case file strikes in Cascade.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story
  • Warnings: Sexual content
  • Word count: 50,150
  • Author's Notes: Dedicated to Janet, with thanks for her generous donation to Moonridge, and with gratitude for the beautiful quilt she made for the Auction. Janet’s request was that the story start with a confrontation that leads the lads to split up for a bit, and that the tale include some element in which Simon and Jim come to understand, through discussions with people at Rainier, that they have been badly underestimating Blair’s capabilities and taking him for granted.

The Future

The Old West

The Old West 1: BITTERWOOD CREEK

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: An AU set in the Old West wherein Jim is a sheriff and Blair is the town doctor. First time, then established relationship.
  • Genres: A/U, Angst, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 144,011
  • Author's Notes: My thanks go to StarWatcher for her incredible beta work on this story, as well as for key research and substantive creative ideas; for example, she came up with the symbolism for Jim's senses... and though I had chosen the title out of thin air, her contributions in identifying a natural and centuries old remedy made an accidental title truly meaningful. Thanks also to Romanse for her continued encouragement. This story came into being only because she asked me to consider creating something I would never have thought of doing... a TS AU situated in the Old West...I hope you'll have as much fun reading this story, as I had writing it!

The Old West 2: OAK CREEK CANYON

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: Sequel to Bitterwood Creek. While it is not essential to read the first story in this Old West AU, this tale will make slightly more sense if it is read in conjunction with BC rather than as a standalone story in its own right.
  • Genres: A/U, Angst, Crossover, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Strong language, Violence
  • Word count: 61,375
  • Author's Notes: My thanks go to StarWatcher for her support as my superb beta, and to Penny for her encouragement.

The Old West 3: UNDER THE WIDE PRAIRIE SKY

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: Jim and Blair return to Bitterwood Creek only to find things have changed during their absence, and there's a large group of new settlers who have moved in. Settlers from the South, who have no use for people unlike themselves.
  • Genres: Angst
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Violence. This story is about blind bigotry and racial hatred in the Old West. There are terms used that may be hurtful to many readers. I regret that, and no insult is intended. To the contrary, I want to show ignorant and willful bigotry for the evil it is.
  • Word count: 94,627
  • Author's Notes: With thanks to Tammy, for your generous donation to Moonridge 2007, to StarWatcher, for your superb beta support, and to Peter Neverland for the cover art. Circuit Court Judge Morton C. Stillwater and his ‘bailiff’, Mark McGettrick, are modeled on, and a tribute to, the characters of the ‘80’s television series, Hardcastle and McCormick. The references to the Black Hills and the settlement of the Dakota Territory in this story are approximately ten years ahead of the actual historical timeline.

The Falling In Love Series

Falling In Love 1: IF YOU GO AWAY

  • Rated: FRM
  • Summary: Follows the series from start to finish from Jim's POV and chronicles how he fell in love with Blair. First times.
  • Genres: Angst, Case story, Hurt/Comfort
  • Warnings: Strong language
  • Word count: 33370
  • Author's Notes: For Tammy, with thanks for your generous donation through Wolfpup's Auction to provide resources for individuals and animals impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This story contains spoilers for pretty much the whole series. Many of the themes of this story are drawn from Remy's haunting vid of Marion Bradfield's song, Tonight Is Just For Us.

Falling In Love 2: CANYONS OF YOUR SOUL

  • Rated: FRAO
  • Summary: This is 'Blair's story', the companion piece to If You Go Away, and this story also spans the series from Switchman to TSbyBS as it shows how Blair fell in love with Jim.
  • Genres: Angst, Romance
  • Warnings: Sexual content, Strong language
  • Word count: 26,841
  • Author's Notes: The song lyrics quoted in this story are from Canyons of Your Soul, by Gary Allan. Please note, this story is a companion piece to If You Go Away (Jim's story) and I may eventually incorporate the two. While I think this story can be read on its own, it would probably be more satisfying to read it after the other.
